Capacity

CAPACITY
Today I was learning about capacity and my class did an activity together. I learnt what capacity was and it is weight ( how much it would hold ).

We worked in our table groups and I grabbed the 5 containers as fast as I could. I clutched a stinky milk bottle, a pitch black container, a pink washing powder, a clear container, a ice cream container and a funnel.

When the teacher said order the containers from the one that you predict that would hold the most to the on that you predict that would hold the least. We decided the order super quick and this is how it goes from the most to the least. Milk container, pink washing powder, ice cream container, pitch container and finally the clear container. We did guess right.

I found out that it wasn't as easy as it seems. Water poured everywhere on our desks but it was good too because the desks were very scruffy. The water turned murky greenish black. We had heaps of fun overall though. I also found out that 1000 ml was the same as 1 litre.

I enjoyed filling up the water and tipping the left over water into the garden. Measuring how much water was in the containers was loads of excitement too.

We tipped the water in the garden not in the gutter is because the water in the gutter goes into the oceans and seas. You won't want to swim in murky greeny blackish water do you. Stop emptying dirty water in the gutter.

Journal Writing

Journal Writing
Wednesday 18th June 2014
This week we played some Squash(the sport)in the school hall. The coach taught us some skills to play Squash. We were separated into four groups with a court per team. After four minutes the person with the highest score can move on up and the person with the lowest score has to move down. For example you are in group 3 the person with the highest score can move to group 4 and the person with the lowest score has to move to group 2. We all had heaps of fun with the funny coach.

Maths Intervention

Maths Intervention

Math Intervention is where students are placed in group that are at their level. This time we had 3 groups and I was with Mrs Harwood. We worked in partners and made a bungee cord from thick rubber bands. We threaded rubber band through the bulldog clip and we attached a bag full of marbles to the bulldog clip. When we filled the whole bag with marbles we dropped it from a very high level and the marbles went through the bag twice. The longest stretch was about 1m and I was quite surprised that the marbles didn't go through the bag. We also made a scatter plot which we all had to search up to find out, well most of us did. It was great fun to work with Mrs Harwood at Math Intervention. Most of us got to the 2nd page or the end of the 1st page.
