Dragons Den

Explain the invention process
We got into buddies and brainstormed ideas on what we should create. Kaitlyn and I came up a idea of making a electrical watering can. Although we didn't make it we made a imovie about it.
The most enjoyable part was making the funny imovie because it was a new experience.
The hardest part was remembering the words to say while doing the imovie
If I would to do this again I would gather the materials with my buddy and create it together.
I have learnt how to create a imovie and what profit is.
The most scariest moment was when Kaitlyn and I was doing the speech in front of Izzy and Mrs Kilkolly.
The most boring part was waiting for the Dragons Den to start.

The most embarrassing part was that when the Ipad won't work because we were going to share the imovie with the class.
The most messiest part was when we were throwing things in the imovie and we had to pick the things up off the ground.
Here are some pictures and videos related

Buggy Relection

Buggy Reflection
We were taught about buggies because it was our topic for Term 4. We all buddied up and I was with Kaitlyn. We made a spreadsheet about buggies and we gave them to parents with buggies. The first one was really nervereaking so I made Kaitlyn to do it. After all the surveys were filled the parents wanted it to be made from aluminium. 100% looked for safety first and wanted only one seat. Most people wanted a 5 point harness and also wanted a sun cover. Also 100% of the people wanted three wheels and rubber wheels.
Here's the link to the survey

Paper planes and Scatter plots

In Math for the last week and a half my class did some measurement of paper planes. I was partners with Carys and we made 5 unique paper planes. We flew and tested them and measured the planes' wingspan. Open the link above and it will take you to the final result.
Our assertion was that the more flaps the plane has the further it would fly. We were totally wrong because the one with the most flaps went in a big loops outside while i was testing it. We realized that the more slender the plane was the further it would go because it cuts through the air very fast.

Book Week

Last week was Book Week and we had to dress up as a character from a book. I dressed up as Paula from Love Amongst the Haystacks. We paraded around the hall in the morning at 9:00 o'clock straight. I was half excited and half scared because I thought other outfits were great. My favorite outfit was the mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland which is one of my favorite books and movies. The judges were Mrs Sanderfier which is the principal, Mrs Hills and Mrs Harwood were the judges. Me and my friend were pointing out which outfit we liked in every class.
Then we had a class photo, we did a nice photo and than a silly one.

Year 5 and 6 dance unit
WALT:
  • Perform dances from a variety of cultures
  • Use dance vocabulary to describe dance

What did you learn about how to compose a dance?
I learned that we had to make it really simple and in sequence.
What did you learn about performing a dance?
That you had to keep in time and think about others.
What dance or dances did you enjoy the most and why?
I enjoyed the sasa because you got to make your own dance.
I would rate myself as excellent because I learned all the dances very quickly.

Reading

My Tic-tac-toe about New Zealand walks on water.
I have been learning about I wonder questions about the New Zealander who walked on water.
I have been reading New Zealander walks on water for Kiwi Kids News.
He didn't actually walk on water he used a jet pack instead.

Grid Math

This morning we did mapping  and remapping while learning coordinates. Most of us had to do it pen and paper because we couldn't log on.
We were each given a map with coordinates and we had to draw things we use everyday. Then we made very hard questions about the map.
This is the map I made...
This week we are learning about ratios. Ratios are like 1:2 and we also simplified ratios like 9:27=1:3. We also learned about mapping this week too.
Here's a photo...

Art Center in Henderson

Click this link for facts about Andrew Hall

Yesterday Room 2 And Room 3 went to the Corban's Art Center. We met a lady named Amie who showed us through the tools and safety. We got to make whatever we wanted using scrap material and we also met Andrew Hall. I decided to make a flower pot with the help of my friend Kaitlyn.
This is what it looks like...

I enjoyed the collecting the materials because there was so much amazing stuff you can use.
The Challenging part was joining things together because things wasn't staying in place and they kept falling or breaking off.
If I were to do this again I would make something bigger like a container for my collections.

Wearable Art

Monday
We had difficulty cutting the bubble wrap for our skirt since my scissors got jammed in the bubble wrap.
We found out that a train looked better than the our previous plan so we changed the look immediately.
The most challenging part was waiting forever for a glue gun because there weren't many glue gun station.
I really enjoyed making the bracelet because it was fun gluing the feathers on.

Tuesday
  • Finish skirt
  • Start top
  • Make more props

Wednesday
Yesterday we completed the skirt and the props because we have been helping each other. We had difficulty with gluing little sequels individually and folding the newspaper fans. We found out that it took a long time to glue on the sequels but it was worth it. Working in a group was much faster because there are 2 people instead of 1.
Our outfit reflects our element because the feathers stick out like flames. The Torbay Learning Model
helps us because it helped us to be more creative

Thursday
Overall I feel great about my outfit because it is more sophisticated than the plan.
The biggest success was when I was making the decorations in the little eggs containers without getting burnt.
My most enjoyable part was when I was making loads of props like necklaces, bracelets, rings and belts.
The hardest part was trying not to get burnt when doing the little egg decorations because it was very small and the glue went through the ribbon when I was pushing it down.
If I was to do this again I would help Jasmine more with the skirt because the skirt took a long time by herself.
I have learnt how to glue little things like beads and sequels on.

Financial literacy

Financial literacy
A week ago Tessa from ASB to teach us about financial literacy. I was really fascinated about what Tessa told us because I thought it was going to be very boring. My favourite part was when 3 of my classmates got chosen to hold up laminated card about interest. It was super funny when they revealed the cards of which cars they can buy (not really).

Capacity

CAPACITY
Today I was learning about capacity and my class did an activity together. I learnt what capacity was and it is weight ( how much it would hold ).

We worked in our table groups and I grabbed the 5 containers as fast as I could. I clutched a stinky milk bottle, a pitch black container, a pink washing powder, a clear container, a ice cream container and a funnel.

When the teacher said order the containers from the one that you predict that would hold the most to the on that you predict that would hold the least. We decided the order super quick and this is how it goes from the most to the least. Milk container, pink washing powder, ice cream container, pitch container and finally the clear container. We did guess right.

I found out that it wasn't as easy as it seems. Water poured everywhere on our desks but it was good too because the desks were very scruffy. The water turned murky greenish black. We had heaps of fun overall though. I also found out that 1000 ml was the same as 1 litre.

I enjoyed filling up the water and tipping the left over water into the garden. Measuring how much water was in the containers was loads of excitement too.

We tipped the water in the garden not in the gutter is because the water in the gutter goes into the oceans and seas. You won't want to swim in murky greeny blackish water do you. Stop emptying dirty water in the gutter.

Journal Writing

Journal Writing
Wednesday 18th June 2014
This week we played some Squash(the sport)in the school hall. The coach taught us some skills to play Squash. We were separated into four groups with a court per team. After four minutes the person with the highest score can move on up and the person with the lowest score has to move down. For example you are in group 3 the person with the highest score can move to group 4 and the person with the lowest score has to move to group 2. We all had heaps of fun with the funny coach.

Maths Intervention

Maths Intervention

Math Intervention is where students are placed in group that are at their level. This time we had 3 groups and I was with Mrs Harwood. We worked in partners and made a bungee cord from thick rubber bands. We threaded rubber band through the bulldog clip and we attached a bag full of marbles to the bulldog clip. When we filled the whole bag with marbles we dropped it from a very high level and the marbles went through the bag twice. The longest stretch was about 1m and I was quite surprised that the marbles didn't go through the bag. We also made a scatter plot which we all had to search up to find out, well most of us did. It was great fun to work with Mrs Harwood at Math Intervention. Most of us got to the 2nd page or the end of the 1st page.

Bees

Bees

A few weeks ago we were talking about how bees make honey. One of my classmates dad was a bee keeper so he came to talk about it in our classroom. He also brought in some honey made from his bees. He also brang his bee suit that we made him wear. It was very funny. Then we tried the honey. It was incredibly sweet and runny. He told how bees are very important to the environment and that if we didn't have any bees we wouldn't have honey or flowers and trees.

TREAD LIGHTLY

What is Tread Lightly?

Tread lightly is a Caravan about recycling, reducing, reusing and how to save power.
On Tuesday me and my class went to the Tread lightly caravan. We had 6 activities which were the human sized lizards and vines, the electronic bike, waste, microscope and the T.V that tells you how many Earth's you take up.
My favourite activity was the electronic bike. I was really hard work and it was like you just been to the gym.
Thank you for reading my work.

Koru art

How to make Koru Art
Things you will need

  • Pastels of any color of your choice
  • Big A3 piece of white paper
  • Art pencil
  • A4 sheet of paper
How to make the Koru Art
  1. Using your Art pencil and A4 paper plan your design.
  2. Once you are happy with your plan, copy your plan onto the A3 paper.
  3. Once you are done copying your Koru, draw a background.
  4. After you finish drawing your background, color the Koru Art with the pastels.(Tip:Try shading, press hard and do the foreground first to prevent smudging)
  5. There you have it your very own Koru Art and have fun.

What I liked about my Koru Art

Review
I like my Koru Art because the color is bright, bold attractive. I like my background black because the Koru stands out. For my background I have a electric theme with circuit hearts.
If I could do another Koru Art I would try not to go over the pencil lines and do better at shading the big green Koru. I would probably blend the circuit hearts too.
I enjoyed making the Koru Art because I get to color the Koru any color I like and any background I liked too. I didn't like it when I went over the lines and had to make it bigger.
I learnt how to draw Korus by making them fat not skinny. I also learnt how to shade Korus and make them look naturally shaded.

Screen print

How to make a screen print
What you need

  • Squeegee
  • Frame
  • 2 colored paints
  • 2 sheets of A3 paper
  • A4 sheet of paper
  • Art pencil
  • Scissors
  1. Using your art pencil plan your design on the A4 sheet of paper.
  2. After that use your scissors and cut your picture out. Keep both pieces of paper.
  3.  Cut out the eyes, mouth, nose, etc
  4. Put any piece of paper under the frame and  squeeze some paint at one side. Use the squeegee to spread out the paint on to the A3 paper
  5. Let it dry overnight and use the other piece of paper after drying.
  6. Using the frame again use the sheet of left over paper and put it on the other A3 paper with has the half done screen print.
  7. Use another colour of paint and repeat step 4.
  8. Let it dry and there you have it your very own screen print.
I like my screen print because it is colorful and cute. I don't like the way my screen print looks like a Fire Boy than a Fennec Fox.
If I can redo my screen print I would try not have a slither because I had one this time. Also maybe can also do a cool colour one.
I really enjoyed making my screen print because it was a new experiment and it was really cool to do it. I also didn't like it a little because it got very messy.
I learnt what a squeegee and frame is. I learnt how to do it as well as finishing it because I was away.
